Susan Moore-Fontenot is a trailblazer in policy governance, advocacy, and education leadership, making history 37 years ago as the first minority elected to the Lee College Board of Regents. As the longest-serving Regent in the college’s history, Susan’s leadership has shaped transformative initiatives resulting in record enrollment growth, improved graduation and completion rates, enhanced board orientation and training, and strategic planning processes that elevated institutional performance.
Throughout her tenure, she has held every level of board leadership, including Board Chair, and chaired the 18-member Lee College Presidential Search Committee in 2020 while serving on four additional presidential search committees during her tenure. Susan co-developed a groundbreaking presidential evaluation process incorporating longitudinal metrics and full board participation, which has been shared at national and state platforms through the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) and the Community College Association of Texas Trustees (CCATT). Susan chaired the Policy Committee, creating an inclusive process for effective policy governance. In recognition of her service, in June 2025 the Lee College Board of Regents honored her as Regent Emeritus and as a Lifetime Member of ACCT for her decades of commitment.
Currently serving as Immediate Past Chair of CCATT, Susan leads the Nominations and MOU Committees and contributes to the Strategic Planning Committee in an ex-officio capacity. A passionate educator, she dedicated 15 years as an adjunct instructor at Houston City College and San Jacinto Community College, mentoring and inspiring future leaders. Her work involved helping students persist through intensive academic advising.
Her distinguished 38-year career in public education includes more than two decades in Human Resource leadership, where she spearheaded strategic initiatives in workforce planning, change management, executive coaching, and organizational effectiveness. She has successfully hired and developed thousands of employees while shaping best practices in human capital management and employee relations.
Beyond her professional achievements, Susan has devoted her life to civic engagement and community service. A proud 50-year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she helped charter a new chapter. She also serves on the executive board of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. - Baytown Chapter and chairs the Education and Scholarship Committee for the Pilot Club of Baytown. Her faith remains central to her life as a 38-year member of Wheeler Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, where she serves on the Deaconess Board, Courtesy Corps, and Cancer Ministry.
Susan’s dedication has been recognized with numerous awards, including the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award, honoring her legacy of servant leadership, trailblazing advocacy, and unwavering commitment to education and community betterment.
