Dr. Jill Wakefield is Chancellor Emerita of the Seattle Colleges, a three-college system with 45,000 students. Jill was the first female and longest serving chancellor in the district’s history. During her career in Seattle, she worked as classified staff, faculty, and administrator in Student Affairs, Instruction, and Institutional Advancement. She served as president of South Seattle Community College from 2003 – 2009. In 2009, she was named chancellor of the system. Jill is known for piloting the applied baccalaureate program in Washington State, initiating I-BEST (a nationally recognized model in which students enroll concurrently in basic skills remediation and technical education), developing a regional health care innovation and training center, re-developing an apprenticeship training/business service center, and initiating student completion initiatives. After retiring from the Seattle College District, she served as interim president of Bellevue College, Washington State’s largest community college. In addition to serving as a search consultant, she conducts board retreats and evaluations, coaches college leaders, and works as a Guided Pathways Coach.  She is author of the ACCT publication, “Five Key Practices for a Successful Transition Year.”
