José Miranda serves as the Director of Government Relations for the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), a position he has held since April 2022. He served as ACCT's Senior Government Relations Associate for two years prior to that. At ACCT, he advocates on behalf of the governing boards of community colleges to secure federal support for our institutions and the students that they serve. José also represents ACCT on national coalitions and partnerships with stakeholders such as the Committee for Education Funding (CEF), where he serves as Co-Chair of the Hill Teams Advocacy Committee.
Before joining ACCT, José spent time working at the U.S. House of Representatives as a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Public Policy Fellow, Teach For America (TFA) Capitol Hill Fellow, and as a Legislative Assistant for Reps. Raúl Grijalva (AZ-03) and Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40). Before moving to DC, he worked as a high school English as a second language teacher in Miami Dade, Fl.
José holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Studies from the University of Florida. While at UF, he was a Machen Florida Opportunity Scholar, attending UF with a full scholarship for first generation college students. Outside of his professional commitments, he serves on the UF Association of Hispanic Alumni board of directors, working with a volunteer team to provide scholarships, mentorship, and networking opportunities to UF students and alumni. In his spare time, José enjoys playing (and watching) soccer, and reading. He is an immigrant originally from Nicaragua who lives in DC with his partner, and their dog Nutela.
