Stephen C. Head, Ph.D. became the fourth chancellor of Lone Star College (LSC) in 2014 after thirty years of service to LSC. Located in the north Houston metropolitan area, LSC is one of the largest and most prominent community colleges in the nation. The college enrolls over 85,000 students each semester, employees over 6,000 individuals and has an annual budget exceeding $500 million. The college features seven comprehensive campuses, an Online Campus, two university centers and ten community-based centers providing academic and workforce programs.
Dr. Head served as President at three different LSC locations, Executive Vice Chancellor and numerous high-level positions during his tenure at Lone Star College. He also periodically taught graduate and undergraduate courses. The college was recognized for its financial soundness, facilities, partnerships and academic and workforce collaborations.
Dr. Head retired in July 2023, and was named Chancellor Emeritus by the Board of Trustees.
As Chancellor, he focused on student access, equality, success and completion; academic quality; workforce programs in alignment with community needs; and collaborative agreements with educational, business, civic and charitable organizations. He viewed the college as a critical contributor to the social, cultural and economic well being of the community. His values included operating the college on a sound, fiscally conservative model based on data, efficiencies, accountability and common sense. His also insisted on transparency, ethical behavior and a culture of high expectations and achievement.
Dr. Head remains an active in a number of local, state and national organizations that support the community college mission. He resides in The Woodlands, Texas and his wife, Linda, continues to work at Lone Star College. They have four successful children and four grandchildren.
