Dr. Keith Miller has served as a president across three colleges for a total of 29 years as a CEO. He has been named president emeritus of Greenville Technical College in South Carolina and Black Hawk College in Illinois.
Dr. Miller's own educational journey began at a community college, a testament to his deep understanding of the two-year system. He earned an associate degree in technical education – radiologic technology from Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. This foundational experience propelled him to a specialty certification in Radiologic Special Procedures (angiography and computer axial tomography) from the University of Virginia Medical Center, a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Kansas, a master's in community college teaching from Pittsburg State University, and a doctorate in adult and continuing education from Kansas State University.
His career trajectory showcases a diverse background, encompassing roles as an instructor, dean, and vice president within higher education. Beyond academia, Dr. Miller's experience extends into the private sector, notably in healthcare. He has taught radiography at two community colleges, Special Radiographic Procedures at the University of Kansas Medical Center, and various facets of adult learning at Central Michigan University and Michigan State University.
Dr. Miller's influence extends far beyond individual institutions. He has held pivotal national leadership positions in higher education, demonstrating a profound commitment to advancing the entire sector. From 2008 to 2009, he served as chairman of the board for the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), the leading advocacy organization for over 1,000 two-year colleges and their 10.5 million students. He also contributed to the board of directors for the American Council on Education, representing presidents and chancellors of over 1,600 accredited, degree-granting institutions across the United States. Further solidifying his national impact, he co-chaired the national steering committee for the development of the Voluntary Framework for Accountability, a crucial national accountability system for two-year colleges.
Beyond his professional accolades, Dr. Miller is a deeply engaged leader within the community. He has chaired the Greenville Chamber board of directors and the Commerce Club board and served on the boards of United Way of Greenville County, Upstate Alliance South Carolina, and the Health Sciences Center – Prisma Health. His commitment to community well-being is further evidenced by his chairmanship of March for Babies (2010-2011) and the Urban League of the Upstate (2016-2017). He currently contributes to the Boards of Governors for the Poinsett Club and Greenville Country Club.
Dr. Miller's remarkable contributions have been widely recognized. In May 2023, he received the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian honor, a testament to his exceptional service. Later that year, the Community Foundation of Greenville bestowed upon him the Education Spirit Award, acknowledging his dedicated efforts to benefit Greenville's youth through education.
