My “North Star” are the students I serve in the Nevada System of Higher Education. With four community colleges and 60,000 students combined, my focus as an elected regent since 2017 is transforming students’ lives to meet the workforce needs of Nevada.

I’m a first-generation college student. While working full-time, I obtained an associate, bachelor’s (magna cum laude) and master’s degree. I enjoyed a 21-year corporate career in management, labor relations and sales from General Motors.

Currently, I serve as the ACCT Vice Chair. Since 2021 ACCT Board of Directors Member, State Coordinator 2019-2023, Nominating Committee 2018, Presenter at six Congresses, Attended seven Leadership Congresses and five Legislative Summits.

I’ve served as NSHE Vice Chair, Chair Pro tempore, Committee Chair/ Vice Chair on eight committees. I proudly serve statewide on the ad hoc committee on higher ed funding.

I respectfully ask for your vote as Director At-Large from the Pacific Region!

Long Beach City College, CA

Serving as an ACCT Director-At-Large is a privilege which I am honored to have. Earning the CCCT endorsement again is also a source of great pride because it allows me to continue advancing ACCT’s mission with the support of my State’s leadership. First elected to the LBCC Board of Trustees in 2016, I am currently serving my second term as Board President. My unique personal background as a first-generation immigrant from Honduras who was adopted and raised by my African-American stepfather, and my broad professional experiences as a career educator, labor union officer, and journalist all influence my work advocating for community colleges. I am passionate about workforce development and I pour my heart and soul into programs which prepare our students and future-proof our career-readiness efforts. My direct ties to the Pacific Islander community and my activism with working families enable me to serve underrepresented demographics on the frontline of higher education.
